We live in a busy, busy world.
So many of us feel disconnected from our purpose, and we yearn for stillness, a little space to reconnect with our true selves.
But there has been a shift – we are reclaiming our sanity amidst the chaos.
We see it with the rising popularity of yoga and meditation – mindfulness has become a buzz word that is no longer reserved for the fringes of society and has made its way into collective consciousness.
These are blessings as we embrace this idea of balance…it’s not a myth, as some may believe.
That’s because balance is a practice and not a static state.
A balanced life doesn’t necessarily mean all the spheres of your life are in perfect balance at once but rather that attention is given to those areas that are most important in that moment and that you allow those priorities to naturally shift.
We create balance when we come home to the stillness within…when we simply be. We are after all human be-ings, a truth that I believe society at large has gotten a bit away from.
However, there is a paradox that we must come to terms with, as I do not believe that taking action is against our nature either…in fact, it is entwined in the very fabric of our being as we are co-creators of this experience in life.
Simply put, in order to create, we must take action…but not any old action.

How then do we choose action that is from our Spirit, as that is what “inspired” means after all?
By listening to our intuition of course.
Our intuition will always guide us to right action, but admittedly, it’s not always easy to hear what it’s saying when we have covered that voice with the noise from our ego.
This is why making peace with our ego’s thoughts is one of the core principles I coach my clients on.
But this is a tricky area to navigate, as the physical brain is hardwired to think – positive and negative thoughts – so it is inevitable that those negative limiting beliefs will creep in again among the positive ones we have created.
Indeed, there are moments when the ego simply won’t quiet down, no matter how hard we try.
It’s in those moments where we have a choice…to take inspired action despite it all.
This doesn’t mean we rush forward without consciousness or that we avoid our feelings altogether, but rather that we recognize the power of inspired action can often shift the ego’s noise by taking the energy away from the negative spin cycle of thought.
I have seen this at play in my life and in my client’s lives over and over again. It begins with that stuck feeling, and we move compassionately toward learning the lessons and lessening the charge around it.
And even if we don’t feel 100% a-ok absolutely balanced and clear – we take that first step toward that goal or idea. That first empowering step.
The ego is taken aback:
“Wait a minute, why is she still taking action – why isn’t she staying stuck???”
And just when he’s trying to figure it out – we take another small yet inspired step.
One by one, we continue taking those steps, and bit by bit, the ego’s grasp subsides.
By doing so, we begin to recognize our ego doesn’t have to win this round, and we move one step closer toward our vision of our ideal life.
I’d love to hear from you! Is there an area of your life where you are experiencing resistance right now? If so, what is one small inspired action step that you can take to move through that resistance to discover what’s on the other side?

Hi Sabrina,
This is such good advice – taking one step gives you a different vantage point from which to plan the next step.
I’ve been moving forward at breakneck speed these days. I don’t seem to have any choice – things break and I fix them then I get inspired as to how to improve them. I’m getting ready to launch a Reiki healing work site soon. That will make it 3 web sites in one year – since April. 😮
I find that as I spend time at my favourite places (like here) my inspiration is consistent. Thanks so much for this!
Lori
Lori, you never cease to amaze me – I thought I was doing well managing ONE site – couldn’t imagine 3!
You say you don’t seem to have a choice, but your real choice is truly in the way you’re approaching your actions – recognizing that sometimes “broken things need fixing” and that you can still keep yourself inspired at the same time you do what needs to be done!
P.S. Please let me know when you launch your Reiki site – I can’t wait to check it out and share it with my community!
It’s not as ambitious as all that! The second site is a blog for the first one (oh, ok, there are two when you count LFI) and the third one, the Reiki one, won’t be a blog but just an info site. I will certainly let you know when it’s up. I’m really excited about putting this out there and offering remote treatments via Skype all over the world! Ok, you can call me ambitious, I guess 😉
It’s funny actually – I can sense your ego voice saying “it’s only ______” trying to downplay it but then you let that intuitive voice jump right in and OWN your gifts – and your drive to create is certainly one of them, Lori!
I’ve realized perfectionism keeps me from taking action-whereas sometimes I just need to do SOMETHING to move my life even if it is not the most perfect thing. Writing, in particular can be like that. Sometimes I just have to put de words on the page even if they suck, just to get the juices flowing…
Oh girl, writing is definitely an area where sometimes the best thing to do is to write, even if it’s crappy nonsense. This is one of the reasons I love Julia Cameron’s The Artist’s Way – if only we could be so free in all of our writing as we are with our morning pages!
This is such an important message, Sabrina. And one that it took me awhile to embrace. But as much as there is safety (for the ego) in staying in the known, I’m happy that I’ve now found a comfort in taking those small steps forward in the midst of resistance.
Trusting that I can walk through anything has been a huge – and relatively recent – lesson for me, so I really appreciate your wisdom on this.
Thank you for sharing this Andrea! You’re absolutely right – the ego makes it feel “safe” but it’s a false safety because at the end of the day we will feel empty and unfulfilled if we play it safe all the time.
You absolutely can take small steps through anything – I mean, ANYTHING – and I’m so grateful we’re on this path learning this wisdom together!
hi, its so true what you say about the ego! When you are in your head, you’re dead!! Change means a break from the norm, the unknown and the head wants to protect us from that and keep us safe. But the juice of life comes from expanding those boundaries.
Oh how I love your phrase “the juice of life” – yes! That’s what we’re after at the end of the day isn’t it?
One small step of inspired action….I love that because it leaves room to readjust and to continue with the intuition, not that we run headlong and cease listening to the intuition, but that we listen with each step. It doesn’t seem rushed or desperate or fearful, but quiet and beautiful and confident. refreshing.
Thank you Court for truly understanding the heart of my message and articulating it so beautifully!
I love your emphasis in listening to your intuition! It’s something that we all and it is so important, but we aren’t taught to value it. Thank you for this reminder!
Absolutely! I am so grateful that my mentors – and life experience! – has taught me to value it above the noise. Life isn’t always easy as a result but is so much more meaningful.
The ego can easily stop anybody at anytime. Even now for those that are successful they worry about just being good enough.
Jake you make a great point – no one is immune to the ravages of the ego, no matter how successful they seem. The difference between those of us who get stuck and those who move forward is simply a matter of gathering the right tools and putting them into practice again and again and again.
such a beautiful post, sabrina! i especially love your definition of a balanced life. it is so important to realize that our priorities will shift from time to time, and that’s o-k-a-y. and i am a huge fan of using my intuition to guide me. that inner voice does not steer us wrong, if only we care enough to stop and listen. (thank you.)
Thank you April! Balance was one of the reasons I began my coaching practice in the first place, and that definition organically evolved as I began to understand how it would manifest in my own life!
The more I stick around this place, the more I’m like it. Really glad to have been introduced to your little chunk of this new thing called “the internet”
Kick off your shoes, Rog, and make yourself at home – you’re welcome here in my little corner anytime :).
For me, the one small action I know I need to take more is INACTION. I’m so determined all of the time, I work hard, and I forget how supported I am by my intuition, my life, the Universe. I’m learning to stop and let myself be supported. Thanks for the reminder that I need to do that more!
Karen, that is so very intuitive of you! And I love that you brought up this paradox of “the action in inaction!” I see it as consciously choosing to BE – and in making that conscious choice you are indeed taking “action” in the direction your soul is craving!
Love this comment – thank you so much for stopping by!
I also believe that those moments when seemingly in a place of “inaction”, is actually the pause when the universe is doing the work for me.
I asked the Universe to send me signs and messages today, and between your comment, Karen’s below, and a few Divinely timed emails from my tribe, I am so happy to receive! I absolutely agree – and love that you call it “seemingly” in a place of inaction. Because the choice to pause is JUST as powerful as the choice to press play, isn’t it?
Thank you for stopping by Sherry and for your insightful comment!
